Fenway Sports Group, the owners of Liverpool Football Club, have announced the sale of a minority stake to a consortium called '1892 Holdings', which includes billionaire Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.
This transaction, which has not been detailed in terms of value or the level of the stake, also brings together funds from Amit Bhatia, the Mittal family, and Elaine and Eduardo Saverin, co-founders of Facebook. It is estimated that the consortium's stake will represent approximately one third of the club's capital, and Bezos will not be part of the expanded board of directors.
Amit Bhatia will serve as vice president, and Bryan Baum and Elaine Severin are expected to join the board. This is Bezos's first investment in a sports team, and Liverpool is valued at £5-6 billion. Mike Gordon, the president of FSG, emphasized that Liverpool continues to attract investor interest due to a long-term vision.
