Jaqueline Cristian (28 years old, ranked 36th in WTA) has qualified for the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami, after a dramatic victory of 6–3, 4–6, 7–6(5) against the Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the 11th seed of the competition.
The match lasted two hours and 38 minutes and was decided in the tie-break of the third set, with Cristian managing the key moments better. This is the first time in her career that the Romanian reaches the fourth round at a tournament of this category, and in the round of 16, she will face American Jessica Pegula, the 5th player in the world.
