The investigation, led by the General Inspectorate of the National Police, concerns donations made by Mbappe to five police officers, including €60,300 to the commander of the special unit. The payments were made from a bank account in Monaco and the investigation was launched after a report by the Tracfin intelligence service. The footballer's entourage explained that the money came from a bonus for the team's performance at the 2022 World Cup.
