At the Club World Cup in the USA, PSG beat Seattle Sounders 2-0 to finish top of Group B with six points. Botafogo RJ suffered a 0-1 loss to Atletico Madrid, also with six points, but with a lower points tally. Seattle Sounders finished last, with no points.
