FC Barcelona, the reigning champion of Spain, reached an agreement with Newcastle on Wednesday for the transfer of English international Anthony Gordon, according to a source within the Catalan club. Gordon, at 25 years old, will be Barcelona's first signing this summer, as the team seeks offensive reinforcements following the departure of striker Robert Lewandowski. Newcastle accepted the offer of 70 million euros, plus 10 million euros in bonuses, and the transfer is now free of financial constraints.
The official announcement of Gordon's five-year transfer, who is preparing for his first World Cup, is expected by this weekend. Gordon, born in Liverpool and developed at Everton, was transferred to Newcastle in 2023 for around 50 million euros and scored 10 goals in 12 matches in the Champions League. His arrival does not rule out other offensive signings for Barcelona.
