Emeric Ienei, the legendary coach of Steaua Bucharest, passed away on November 5, at the age of 88. Ienei was hospitalized at the Bihor County Emergency Clinical Hospital. Born on March 22, 1937, in Agrișu Mic, Arad County, Ienei had a remarkable career both as a player, playing for teams such as UTA Arad and Steaua Bucharest, and as a coach. He won the championship title three times and the Romanian Cup four times with Steaua.
As a coach, he led teams such as Crișul Oradea and Universitatea Craiova, but his greatest achievement remains winning the European Champions Cup in 1986 with Steaua. He also served as the national team coach for Romania and Hungary. Ienei will remain in the memory of fans as an emblematic figure of Romanian football.
