The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has decided to suspend Ethiopian runner Diribe Welteji for a period of two years after she failed to provide a doping sample in February 2025. Additionally, all her competitive results during that period, including the silver medal obtained in the 1,500 meters at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, have been annulled.

Welteji, who was provisionally suspended in September, thus missed the World Championships in Tokyo. Although the national anti-doping body of Ethiopia initially determined that there was no violation, World Athletics contested this decision, seeking a longer suspension. CAS concluded that Welteji did not provide a convincing justification for her absence from testing, although the non-presentation was not considered intentional. The retroactive suspension began on July 8, 2025, and will end on June 30, 2027, and Welteji will be 25 years old at the end of this period.
