At the European U23 Swimming Championships in Slovakia, David Popovici impressed with an exceptional performance, winning the gold medal in the 100m freestyle with a record time of 46.71 seconds. This puts him second in the history of the event after Pan Zhanle. Popovici also became the first swimmer to swim the last 50 meters in under 24 seconds. However, the financial rewards for his medals are modest compared to the Olympics. He emphasized that he achieved this feat without special training, thanks to the personal balance in his life.
