World Cup 2026 | Belgium disappoints again. Cape Verde produces a new surprise. Egypt achieves its first victory in its history at a World Cup.

The national team of Belgium drew on Sunday evening, with a score of 0-0, against the national team of Iran, in Group G of the World Cup. The Belgians clearly controlled the match in Los Angeles against Iran, having, until elimination, a possession of 77 percent, plus 17 shots on the Asian goal.

The Cape Verde national team achieved yet another spectacular result at the World Cup, after drawing with Uruguay, with a score of 2-2, on Monday, in Group H of the World Cup. Cape Verde opened the scoring in the 21st minute, through Kevin, who scored the first goal for the national team in World Cup history. Varela scored the second goal for the team in the 61st minute. The goals for Uruguay were scored by Araujo (46) and Canobbio (45+6).

In the standings, Spain has 4 points, followed by Uruguay and Cape Verde with two points each, and Saudi Arabia with one point. 

Egypt managed to turn the tide of the match and defeat New Zealand 3-1 at BC Place in Vancouver, with the "Pharaohs" thus achieving their first victory at the FIFA World Cup and being very close to the knockout stage. The match played in Vancouver started surprisingly for the Egyptians. New Zealand opened the scoring in the 15th minute through defender Finn Surman. The Egyptians equalized in the 58th minute when Ziko scored with a header, and took the lead with Salah's goal in the 68th minute, assisted by Ziko.

The Egyptians closed the score in the 82nd minute when Salah took a corner and Trezeguet scored with a header. Following the victory, Egypt climbed to first place in Group G with 4 points, followed in the standings by Iran and Belgium with 2 points each, while the last place is occupied by New Zealand with just one point.
