Australian Cameron McEvoy has broken the world record in the 50m freestyle.

Cameron McEvoy, a 31-year-old Australian swimmer, set a new world record in the 50m freestyle, finishing the race in 20.88 seconds at the 2026 China Swimming Open. This performance surpassed the previous record held by Cesar Cielo. McEvoy, a specialist in this event, won the gold medal in Fukuoka (2023) and Singapore (2025) and became the Olympic champion in Paris (2024).

Before this record, McEvoy had a personal best of 21.06 seconds, achieved at the World Championships in Fukuoka. At the competition in China, silver was won by Jack Alexy (21.57), and bronze by Kyle Chalmers (22.01). Additionally, David Popovici, with a time of 21.83 seconds, would have placed third in this competition.
