A major scandal has erupted in Turkish football, involving over 100 referees in illegal betting activities. An internal investigation by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) revealed that out of 571 referees checked, 371 have betting accounts, and 152 are actively betting. TFF President Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu stated that ten referees placed over 10,000 bets, and 42 of them bet on more than 1,000 matches.
These allegations, which include active referees in the Süper Lig, raise suspicions of corruption and bias in Turkish refereeing. The TFF announced that it will take immediate action against those involved and will use foreign referees to reduce tensions in the Süper Lig in the spring of 2024.
