Belgium has been granted the right to appeal against FIFA's decision to suspend the one-match ban imposed on Folarin Balogun, less than 24 hours before the team's match in the round of 16 against the United States, at 03:00, Romania time. The Belgian federation expressed its "surprise" at FIFA's decision to suspend the ban, citing Article 27 of the disciplinary code.
It is unclear whether the appeal is merely procedural or if it has real chances of changing the rules again on the eve of a crucial knockout match in the World Cup.
FIFA has been contacted for comment. The match in the round of 16 for the United States national team against Belgium will start on Tuesday morning at 03:00, Romania time, at Lumen Field in Seattle, and Balogun currently has permission to play. Trump's role in overturning the suspension is currently under analysis.
