The 44-year-old Xavi, who announced in January that he would resign at the end of the season, was persuaded to stay by club president Joan Laporta. Xavi's recent statements, made at a press conference, appear to have angered the club's board, who now believe the former Spain midfielder should leave. The favorite to take over as coach is current Barcelona B manager Rafael Marquez.
