According to BAROMETER Informat.ro - INSCOP Research conducted between May 26-30, 2025, 7 out of 10 Romanians trust NATO.
BAROMETER Informat.ro - INSCOP Research is a monthly opinion poll conducted by INSCOP Research commissioned by the news platform Informat.ro in partnership with the think-tank Strategic Thinking Group.
The Informat.ro - INSCOP ResearchBAROMETER aims to bring to public attention topics of interest to stimulate national conversations on various topics and public policies essential for Romania's present and future based on the opinion of Romanians in partnership with prestigious think tanks and academic institutions. It is an approach through which we aim to contribute to the consolidation of democracy through the use of scientific and credible tools that bring the voice of citizens to the forefront of public debate.
Methodology: Data was collected between May 26-30, 2025. Research method: questionnaire interview. Data were collected using the CATI method (telephone interviews), the simple stratified sample size was 1150 persons, representative by significant socio-demographic categories (sex, age, occupation) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania, aged 18 years and over. The maximum permissible error of the data is ± 2.9%, at a confidence level of 95%.
Remus Ștefureac - Director INSCOP Research: "Romanians' trust in international organizations remains very high, with slight differences between NATO and the European Union - NATO enjoys a higher degree of trust (70.5%) compared to the EU (62.3%), a choice in line with the trends of the last 3 years and natural in the current security context. The figures also indicate a high level of resilience of Romania's population on one of the most intense dimensions - the denigration of the EU and NATO - of Russia's information war targeting the populations of the EU Member States. Voters of USR, PNL and PSD express a consistent level of trust in both organizations with levels of over 80%-90%, while AUR supporters show considerable reservations, especially towards the European Union (only 40% trust). Young people aged 18-29, the over 60s, those with higher education and urban dwellers are more likely to have a favourable attitude towards international organizations compared to less educated, rural people. Gender slightly influences perceptions of NATO, with men having higher trust than women. Users of more 'mature' social platforms (such as YouTube and Facebook) also show higher levels of trust than those active on TikTok. Overall, political orientation, level of education and exposure to Western values are determining factors in attitudes towards international institutions."
