The fairness of the 2025 presidential elections

According to BAROMETER Informat.ro - INSCOP Research conducted between May 26-30, 2025, Romanians' opinions on the fairness of the 2025 presidential elections are divided.

BAROMETRUL Informat.ro - INSCOP Research is a monthly opinion poll conducted by INSCOP Research commissioned by the news platform Informat.ro in partnership with the think-tank Strategic Thinking Group.

The Informat.ro - INSCOP ResearchBAROMETER aims to bring to public attention topics of interest to stimulate national conversations on various topics and public policies essential for Romania's present and future based on the opinion of Romanians in partnership with prestigious think tanks and academic institutions. It is an approach through which we aim to contribute to the consolidation of democracy through the use of scientific and credible tools that bring the voice of citizens to the forefront of public debate.

Methodology: Data was collected between May 26-30, 2025. Research method: questionnaire interview. Data were collected using the CATI method (telephone interviews), the simple stratified sample size was 1150 persons, representative by significant socio-demographic categories (sex, age, occupation) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania, aged 18 years and over. The maximum permissible error of the data is ± 2.9%, at 95% confidence.

Remus Ștefureac - Director INSCOP Research: "The opinions of the population on the fairness of the organization of the presidential elections reflect the strong polarization of the vote. Approximately 90% of PNL and USR voters believe that the elections were organized correctly, while about 90% of AUR voters believe that the elections were organized rather incorrectly. 75% of PSD voters believe that the elections were organized correctly, while 20% of PSD voters believe that the elections were organized incorrectly, which may suggest the likely proportion of Social Democratic voters who voted for Nicușor Dan and George Simion respectively. The contrast between opinions is strong between voters with higher education (75% think that the elections were rather correctly organized) and voters with primary education (75% think that the elections were rather incorrectly organized), but also between Bucharest and large urban (over 60% think that the elections were correctly organized) and rural (about 60% think that the elections were incorrectly organized) voters. These differences reflect in reality the structure of the two candidates' electoral bases, which indicates the maintenance of a strong polarization in our society, demonstrates the harmful impact of the wave of misinformation aimed at discrediting democracy in Romania and shows the need for serious efforts to re-credibilize our democratic regime throughout the whole society!"

Correctness of 2025 presidential elections

50.4% of Romanians believe that this year's presidential elections were organized rather correctly, 45.7% that they were organized rather incorrectly, and 3.9% do not know or do not answer this question.

I believe that this year's presidential elections were organized rather correctly in significantly higher proportions than the average of 50.4% in particular: voters of PNL (90%) and USR (89%), people with higher education (75%), people over 60 (59%), people living in Bucharest (66%) and in large urban areas (60%). I think that the elections were rather incorrectly organized in higher than average proportions (45.7%) in particular: AUR voters (89%), people aged 30-44 (58%), people with primary education (71%), rural residents (58%), Tik-Tok users (58%).
