WhatsApp will start showing ads in the Updates section, but they won't be enabled for users in the European Union until next year. The Irish Data Protection Commission has been informed by Meta of the delay and will discuss the legal aspects of implementing the ads. Although Meta says it will not collect personal data for targeting, it will use information from other platforms it owns, such as Facebook and Instagram.
