Three Moldovan citizens have been detained on suspicion of organizing illegal migration, after the border police identified three migrants from Sri Lanka who were waiting for guides to cross the Prut River illegally.
They were involved in picking up migrants, organizing transportation to the border area, and coordinating the clandestine crossing, charging fees of 2000 euros. A documented operation took place at the end of May, near the village of Zagarancea, Ungheni district, where the migrants were detected.
The criminal investigation and special investigative measures, carried out by border police with the support of the Special Action Directorate and under the direction of the Ungheni Prosecutor's Office, led to the detention of the three suspects, aged between 24 and 30 years. Two of them were placed in preventive detention for 30 days, while the third was placed under house arrest.
