The European Union has decided to extend sanctions against the oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc and the fugitive Ilan Șor, as well as their associates, until April 29, 2027.

The restrictive measures currently target a total of 23 individuals and 5 organizations. Those included on the sanctions list have their assets frozen, cannot receive funds, and are prohibited from entering or transiting through the territory of the European Union.

Among the sanctioned individuals are Ilan Șor, sentenced to 15 years in prison in the banking fraud case, and Vlad Plahotniuc, who is in custody in the same case. The sanctions also target leaders of paramilitary groups and organizers of violent protests in the Republic of Moldova.

So far, those targeted have not provided official reactions regarding the EU decision.
