Victor Ponta commented on B1 TV on the appointment of Luca Niculescu to the position of prime minister by President Nicușor Dan, noting that the main challenge for the prime minister-designate will be obtaining the political support necessary for the formation and functioning of the Government.
The former prime minister said that he knows Niculescu and that he has worked with him, describing him as “honest” and “professional.” Ponta believes, however, that Niculescu risks being left to manage a difficult political situation on his own, without the firm support of the parties and Parliament.
“Now we have a nomination. This is not the first time I have spoken well of Luca Niculescu, whom I know personally. I have worked with him. He is an honest, professional man. I hope he will be supported. That is all I want, for him to form a government, not merely to get the government approved, to get the budget approved, and to get some important things done.
What I think is important to see—I do not think the PSD will be the problem for Luca Niculescu. I think the PNL is the problem for Luca Niculescu and, in fact, it is not the PNL, because I am convinced—I know Mr. Bolojan—that he wants to leave Victoria Palace. He realizes that the position he holds is harming him as a person as well. The problem is how he gets rid of the USR members, because they do not want to leave government. If the Luca Niculescu government is approved, it means the USR members will leave. If the PNL makes the normal gesture and votes for the Luca Niculescu government, there is a chance we will get through the winter,” Victor Ponta declared on B1TV.
