Ponta submitted a request for suspension from the party, criticizing Crin Antonescu's candidacy as "against Romania's interests". He invoked article 28 of the PSD statute, which provides for the possibility of suspending a member from the party. Ponta emphasized that he would not support Antonescu's candidacy, which he considers to be generated by "obscure forces of a System that has ruled Romania for the last 10 years".
