The UNITAD mission was forced to end its work before completing its investigations, although its mandate had been extended until September 2024. Iraq terminated the mission, deeming it unnecessary because it failed to cooperate with the Iraqi authorities and provide the requested evidence. The mission was supposed to help Iraq hold IS members accountable for war crimes and genocide.
