Eugen Tomac discussed the increase of the child allowance from 8,500 lei to 10,000-12,000 lei. He explained that, together with specialists, he analyzed the budgetary impact of this measure and concluded that the exemption from CASS for mothers with children under a certain age will have a minimal impact, below 0.02% of GDP. Tomac emphasized the importance of encouraging birth rates in Romania, considering the economic migration of many Romanians.
He also mentioned that the platform for the child allowance has not been updated for a decade. The designated Prime Minister promised a subsidy of 2,250 lei for employers who hire parents with at least 3 children. Tomac assured that these measures will not affect the budget deficit target of 6.2% for 2027.
