On Monday, the Senate tacitly adopted two projects initiated by the PSD that propose the elimination of the obligation to pay the health insurance contribution (CASS) for veterans and war widows, the disabled, former political prisoners, monastic personnel, and mothers on child care leave. The deadline for debating these initiatives was November 19, and they are now set to be sent to the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decision-making body. Although the Senate's labor and health committees gave a favorable report, the leader of the PNL senators, Daniel Fenechiu, stated that his party will not support the projects due to a lack of funds in the budget. Fenechiu emphasized that the PNL respects the agreements within the coalition and that the priority remains the budget of Romania and reducing the budget deficit. The projects were submitted by the PSD on September 8, following the introduction of CASS for these categories through a previous package of measures.
