The SCM reacted vehemently to Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan's proposals on the reform of special pensions for magistrates, which include raising the retirement age to 65 and reducing the amount of the pension to 70% of the net salary. The SJC says these measures violate constitutional and international principles, seriously affecting the independence of the judiciary and creating discrimination between generations of magistrates. The Council sees the reform as a political strategy to stigmatize judges and prosecutors, which risks discouraging the profession and undermining the justice system.
