On Tuesday, the PSD asked Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to approve the initiative of the Minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, which provides for the exemption of farmers from paying excise duties and VAT for diesel used in agriculture. Blocking this decision would have negative effects on food prices, in the context of the spring agricultural campaign. The PSD emphasizes that every day of delay will lead to price increases, considering the high costs of diesel.
The proposed mechanism provides for the issuance of vouchers for the purchase of tax-free diesel, which would allow farmers to save and cope with rising fertilizer prices. The PSD claims that the budgetary impact would be zero, as the exempted amounts would be returned through the existing reimbursement system. Additionally, the party draws attention to the increase in the international price of wheat and the need for a rapid response from the Government to protect the national economy and the population. Current fuel prices are influenced by international developments and tensions in the Middle East.
