The project initiated by the PSD, which prohibits the alienation of state-owned shares in companies and credit institutions until December 31, 2027, was adopted by the Senate with 70 votes "for" and 29 "against".
The project is set to be voted on by the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decision-making body. Daniel Zamfir, the leader of the PSD senators, emphasized that the measure is a reaction to the volatility of financial and energy markets. Exceptions to the prohibition will be made for companies with consecutive losses for five years or in insolvency, as well as for shares with a total value below 5 million lei.
The AUR amendments allow for the increase of share capital and the issuance of convertible bonds, maintaining state control.
The project comes in the context of internal political disputes, with the PSD accusing the lack of consultation regarding the alienation of shares.
