Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu stated that Romania has 1,502 state companies, of which 83 generate historic losses of approximately 14 billion lei. Within the recently reactivated National Committee for the Reform of State Companies, Gheorghiu presented a reform plan that includes the elimination of interim management and the restructuring of at least three companies by 2026.
A unique register of state companies will be created to provide a clear picture of the financial situation. Gheorghiu emphasized the need to streamline these companies to better serve citizens. In the first phase, 10 companies will be selected for a pilot project, including 4 from energy and 6 from transportation.
