President Nicușor Dan will have a meeting on Thursday at 12 PM at the Cotroceni Palace dedicated to the Urbanism Code, a crucial normative act for Romania that must be approved to avoid losing over one billion euros from the PNRR funds.
Representatives of the parties from the former governing coalition will participate in the discussions, including PSD, PNL, USR, UDMR, and the Parliamentary Group of National Minorities.
The Urbanism Code project, which reached Parliament in June 2023, is currently in parliamentary procedure but has been blocked for months in the Public Administration Committee due to disagreements between parties on four essential points:
1. constructions on the beach;
2. constructions on green spaces;
3. part of Nicușor Dan's referendum, such as the authorization of constructions and urban planning to be transferred from the Sector Municipalities to the Capital Municipality;
4. legal issues related to urbanism certificates and challenging authorizations and urbanism documentation in court.
The code must be approved by August 31, 2026, to ensure access to funds, and in the absence of an agreement, an extraordinary voting session may be necessary.
