The Mayor General of the Capital, Nicușor Dan, reacted vehemently after George Simion, his AUR counter-candidate, expressed thanks to the Trump Administration for Romania's exclusion from the Visa Waiver program. Dan called Simion "slugarnic" and emphasized that his glee at the loss of Romanians' rights is unacceptable for a future leader of the country. Simion justified the exclusion with a warning from the US that Romania is no longer considered a democracy.
