President Nicușor Dan stated at the "Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum" in Bucharest that Romania is not in a position to choose between Europe and the United States. He explained that, although "in a Latin country, debates are always very passionate," Romania's strategic orientation has remained unchanged in relation to the European Union, NATO, and the USA. According to the president, internal disputes are part of the democratic dynamics and do not affect the country's external direction.
Nicușor Dan emphasized that the relationship between Europe and NATO is complementary, not competitive: "The stronger Europe is, the stronger NATO is." He added that one of Romania's advantages is its "extremely, extremely predictable" foreign policy in recent decades, insisting that "nothing has changed" in this regard.
