In an interview on Radio Romania Actualities, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan emphasized the need for reforming local public administration, stating that two-thirds of the personnel in this sector is oversized. This reform aims to reduce salary expenses, which are three times higher than the revenues of local authorities. Bolojan explained that mayors will not be left with less money, but it is essential to correct inefficient investments from the past, such as the construction of unused infrastructure.

Additionally, the Prime Minister announced that the Government will assume responsibility for the bill regarding the reform of administration before February 1, aiming to eliminate over 6,100 personal advisor positions and reduce the number of local police officers. The project provides for a 10% decrease in personnel expenses, without affecting base salaries. It is estimated that by 2026, 13,000 positions in local administration will be abolished, depending on the approval of the law.
