The draft law initiated by USR senator Ruxandra Cibu Deaconu stipulates that pregnant women will have the right to a companion in the maternity ward during labor and delivery. The proposal complements the Patient Rights Law and aims to protect the dignity and privacy of women during hospitalization. Ruxandra Cibu Deaconu emphasized the importance of this right, mentioning the traumatic experiences of many women during childbirth.
The draft states that women can choose a person to accompany them, respecting hygiene and safety standards. Additionally, healthcare facilities will be required to ensure conditions that protect the privacy of pregnant women. The project has the potential to increase trust in the medical system and reduce childbirth-related trauma. The Senate is the first body to be notified, and the Chamber of Deputies will have the final word.
