A new ordinance modifies the authorization regime for gambling in Romania, requiring operators to request approval from local authorities before starting operations. This grants local authorities the power to approve or reject applications, depending on local development priorities and the protection of public order. Local authorities can delineate areas where gambling can operate and can establish the amount of the local fee for obtaining the operating license. The measure also aims to discourage the uncontrolled expansion of gambling in vulnerable communities. Prime Minister Bolojan emphasized the importance of local authorities having a say in regulating these activities, considering the social and economic impact on local communities.
