The Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) reacted strongly to the statements made by Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu, who compared the pension system of magistrates to "a kind of Caritas" and claimed that the funds allocated to them could be taken from starving children. CSM believes that these statements represent an attack on the independence of justice and incite hatred and discrimination.
Following these comments, CSM decided to notify the competent authorities to investigate possible crimes of incitement to violence. CSM emphasizes that the financial independence of magistrates is not a privilege, but a guarantee of citizens' rights. Additionally, CSM has urged representatives of the executive to maintain a balanced and responsible public discourse, so as not to undermine respect for justice.
