Controversies in PNL: 23 members contest the resignations imposed by the Congress

A statement signed by 23 members of the PNL, called the "Conservative faction", contests the Congress's decision to impose the resignation of some colleagues, invoking the violation of unspecified rules.

"The statutes and decisions adopted by a political party - including those adopted today at the PNL Congress - must comply with the Political Parties Law no. 14/2003 and the statutory provisions in force at the time of their adoption. The Congress's decision to impose the resignation of some PNL members, invoking the generic violation of rules without explicitly indicating them, is devoid of statutory basis."

They argue that their actions are morally and legally justified, emphasizing that the public pressure exerted on colleagues is incompatible with democratic values. The challengers assert that the party's statute must comply with the Political Parties Law and that recent decisions lack legal basis. They demand the recognition of doctrinal diversity within the PNL and criticize the concentration of power in the hands of a single person.

Additionally, the challengers express their solidarity with colleagues affected by pressure and underline the importance of forming a functional government.

The PNL Congress adopted resolutions that provide for the exclusion of members participating in the construction of a government with the PSD, demanding the resignations of leaders such as Lucian Bode and Rareș Bogdan.
