The Romanian government has announced austerity measures aimed at extending health insurance contributions (CASS) to eight categories of people who were previously exempted. These include spouses, parents without income, politically persecuted people and recipients of unemployment benefits. Pensioners with pensions above 3,000 lei will also pay a 10% contribution only on income above this threshold. These measures are aimed at increasing the number of contributors, given that currently only 30% of insured persons pay CASS.
