Former president Traian Băsescu sent a clear message to the National Liberal Party, emphasizing the importance of supporting the government in order to access European funds by August.

Băsescu criticized the political decisions within PNL, stating that Ilie Bolojan, the candidate for the party presidency, is focusing too much on his personal electoral campaign, overlooking national priorities.

At the same time, Ilie Bolojan and Adrian Veștea announced their candidacies for the leadership of PNL, highlighting the need for a change in direction within the party. The National Council of PNL decided to convene an Extraordinary Congress on June 21, 2026, with an overwhelming majority of votes.
