Former President Traian Băsescu commented on November 9, on the appeal made by President Nicușor Dan to the business community, in which he encouraged the initiation of projects that could be taken on by the Government. Băsescu considered this appeal a "stumbling block" and emphasized that Romania does not have the administrative capacity to efficiently manage European funds. He proposed that, if he were Prime Minister, he would immediately cut the 50% bonus on the salaries of employees who claim to work with these funds, suggesting that it is necessary for them to complete the projects and effectively absorb the funds, not just to claim that they are working with them. Băsescu highlighted the importance of implementing concrete projects to benefit from European funds.
