George Simion, the leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), stated that his party will organize a parallel counting of the votes cast in Bucharest for the position of general mayor. He emphasized that AUR wants to promote democracy, in the context of which he believes the current government has affected the democratic process.
Simion asserted that it is essential for parties to encourage democratic participation, especially after a year in which democracy was, in his opinion, trampled upon. He also mentioned that, according to an exit poll, the independent candidate Anca Alexandrescu, supported by AUR, ranked third in voter preferences. AUR will return with the results of the parallel counting to provide an alternative to the official data.
