AUR has initiated a legislative project through which all former members of the Steaua Bucharest team, who won the European Champions Cup in 1986, will receive a merit indemnity from the Romanian state. This initiative coincides with the 40th anniversary of this historic achievement for Romanian football. The project amends Law no. 118/2002, explicitly introducing the right of the '86 Steaua players to this form of recognition. AUR deputy Ciprian Paraschiv, one of the initiators of the project, emphasized the importance of this team, which demonstrated that Romania can excel in football even under difficult conditions.
Paraschiv criticized the delay in recognizing the merits of the '86 Steaua generation, mentioning that the indemnity for coach Emeric Ienei was granted only after the death of Helmuth Duckadam. The initiative is seen as a correction of a historical injustice, considering the significant impact of Steaua's victory on national sports identity.
