The President of the Special Commission against Domestic Violence, Alina Gorghiu, stated that although the majority of domestic violence victims are women, men represent approximately 20% of the total victims. Additionally, children are directly affected or become witnesses to violence in the family. Gorghiu emphasized that domestic violence has no gender and that victim protection must be equal, regardless of sex. Official data shows that over 70% of victims are women, while the rest are men and children.
She referred to recent cases in Teleorman and Hunedoara, where men and children have been victims of assaults. Gorghiu insisted that domestic violence is a crime, without excuses or double standards, and called for consistent enforcement of protection measures for all victims.
