In the Krkonose Mountains in the Czech Republic, two hikers discovered a metal box filled with 598 gold coins and jewelry, valued at an estimated $700,000. The coins, from various countries including Romania, were minted between 1808 and 1905. Historians are investigating who buried the treasure and why, given the region's tumultuous historical context. The objects found could provide clues to the owner, but also to Bohemia's tumultuous history, affected by migration and deportations during and after the war.
