The situation of Romanian education is alarming, with 40% of students functionally illiterate and worrying PISA scores. The failure of the educational system is due to the lack of structural reforms and the implementation of successful models from abroad. The Minister of Education emphasizes the need for paradigm shifts, including in teacher training and student assessment. It is also proposed to attract the best graduates into teaching, rethinking teaching standards and flexibilizing teachers' careers. Dialogue with teachers and parents is essential, but the measures taken are dictated by the fiscal-budgetary crisis.
