Six migrants from Sri Lanka and Iraq were spotted by Romanian border guards trying to cross the Prut River illegally from the Republic of Moldova into Romania. In the same action, two Romanian citizens were apprehended while waiting to pick up the migrants and transport them to Western Europe. The intervention was made possible thanks to the efficient cooperation between the authorities of the two countries. The Moldovan authorities took over the migrants on the basis of a readmission agreement, and police officers are continuing their investigation into smuggling of migrants.
