In 2024, government budget allocations for research and development in the European Union reached €127.916 billion, representing 0.71% of GDP. Romania had the lowest allocation at €19.1 per person, in contrast to Luxembourg, Denmark and the Netherlands, which had the highest. Between 2014 and 2024, all EU governments increased their R&D budgets, with the majority of funds directed towards advancing knowledge and education.
