The Greenpeace study reveals that Romania is among the most disadvantaged countries in Europe in terms of train accessibility. Almost 47% of the routes surveyed are more expensive to travel by train than by plane, and for international routes to Western Europe, train travel is predominantly more expensive. Although rail travel is considered more environmentally friendly, investment in upgrading the rail system is essential to attract more passengers and reduce emissions.
