Researchers at Stanford Medicine have found that hyperactivity of the reticular thalamic nucleus, an area of the brain responsible for filtering sensory information, is associated with autism-like behaviors. By administering experimental drugs used for epilepsy, they were able to reverse autism symptoms in mice, including sensitivity to stimuli and repetitive behaviors. This research suggests a link between autism and epilepsy, opening up new prospects for innovative therapies.
