Ilie Popa, one of Romania's oldest war veterans, died on August 5 at the age of 105, in the commune of Săpata. The last veteran from the village, Popa fought in World War II and witnessed the assassination of Prime Minister Armand Călinescu in 1939. He has been described as a symbol of courage and honor, having made a significant contribution to Romanian history. The funeral service will take place on August 7.
