Bucharest is severely affected by pollution, with 60% of noxious emissions coming from cars, most of them old and diesel. Thermal power plants contribute 75% of sulphur dioxide emissions. Green spaces are shrinking, with the city having an average temperature of 27.43°C and only 0.88 trees per inhabitant. Waste is managed inefficiently and urban biodiversity is not protected. NGOs call on authorities to work together for sustainable solutions.
