On January 14, platform X, developed by Elon Musk, announced measures to prevent the Grok chatbot from creating sexualized images of people, following a negative international reaction. This decision came after the Attorney General of California launched an investigation into xAI, the company developing Grok, due to sexually explicit materials. X will geographically block users' ability to create images of people in swimsuits or lingerie in jurisdictions where these actions are illegal.

X's safety team stated that they have implemented technological measures to prevent the editing of real images in provocative clothing. Additionally, the image creation and editing feature will only be available to paid subscribers. The European Commission has acknowledged the additional measures that X is taking to prohibit the generation of sexualized images. Global pressure on xAI has increased after the "Spicy Mode" feature allowed users to create sexualized deepfakes. California Attorney General Rob Bonta condemned the production of non-consensual explicit materials, and Governor Gavin Newsom called for the company to be held accountable. A coalition of 28 civic groups has urged Apple and Google to ban Grok and X from their app stores.
